Here at FFD, we tend to just say the fantasy terms assuming that everyone knows what they mean. Sometimes we use our own lingo from our home league and nobody knows what we are saying. We are not just for the long time fantasy players, we are also here for the new guys who are just getting into the community. Therefore, we decided to make a dictionary for all you new people to learn the basics of fantasy football. This is for you, girlfriend that begs to be in the fantasy league every year. This is for you, young kids trying to learn the ways of the Degenerates. This is for you, worst player in your league year in and year out. We don’t do this for ourselves, we do this for the people.
Fantasy Football- A game based on another game. Real life players play and your team receives points based on how they do.
Sentence: There isn’t anything better than beating Mike in Fantasy Football.
PPR - Points Per Reception. The superior way to play fantasy football.
Sentence: We play PPR because it’s a Passing league now, oh and Danny Woodhead deserves to be in the Fantasy Football Hall of Fame.
Half PPR - Half a Point per Reception. Acceptable way to play fantasy football, more accurate analysis of players and abilities.
Sentence: We play Half PPR because we believe that RBs are more important, but TEs and WRs still exist.
Standard - Standard Scoring (Not PPR). The worst way to play fantasy football.
Sentence: Standard leagues are for people who like small numbers, can’t count very high, and hate Wide Receivers.
RBBC - Running Back By Committee, multiple running backs used during games on the same team
Example: Eagles, 49ers, Ravens
Vulture Back - A running back who steals carries at the goal line.
Example: Frank Gore
Hospice- A player who is constantly hurt.
Example: Evan Engram, David Johnson, Carson Wentz
Collusion - 2 players working together to win the league.
Sentence: The stench of collusion is overwhelming between Mike and Jared.
JuJu- Luck, superstition, a certain mood.
Sentence: Good JuJu Only. Get out of my face with your Bad Juju.
ADP - Average draft position.
Sentence: Since the injury in practice, his ADP is plummeting.
Flex - A slot in your lineup that can be filled with a RB, WR or TE.
Sentence: I would put in your flex this week, he has a great matchup.
SuperFlex- A slot in your lineup that can be filled with any Offensive Player including QB
Sleeper - A player that is being undervalued and will succeed their projected value.
Sentence: Don’t worry who my sleepers are this year, last year I had Mark Andrews and Devante Parker just know I will be right again this year.
Bust - A player who doesn’t perform to their expectations/values.
Sentence: Antonio Brown was a Bust this year, the man literally was on 2 teams, played 1 game, and had a mental breakdown.
Keeper - A player you retain on your team for the following season.
DFS - Daily Fantasy Sports. A weekly lineup you submit into a tournament for money. Gambling for fantasy football.
Sentence: My fantasy team may suck, but I killed it in DFS this week!
Stack/Stacking - Pairing Multiple players form the same team. Usually a QB with a WR.
Sentence: I always stack my WR1 with my QB, you can never go wrong with double points.
Boom or Bust - A player who either way outperforms or way underperforms their projections.
Example: Will Fuller, Aaron Jones
Ceiling - The highest points a player could earn in a season based off of projections
Sentence: CMC has a ceiling of 120 Receptions this year.
Floor - The lowest points a player could earn in a season based off of projections
Sentence: CMC has a floor of 900 rushing yards.
Handcuff - Taking the backup player at a position that holds high value if he gets to play
Sentence- If you are drafting Dalvin Cook, you need to draft his handcuff Alexander Mattison.
Upside - player that has potential to be better than expected based on volume/Scoring chances/Type of offense/ RB than can also catch the ball.
Zero RB Strategy - not drafting any main RBs, hoping for a WR heavy team. Probably a bold move
Sentence: Oh Greg went with the Zero RB Strategy this year? Good luck winning games with Phillip Lindsay as your RB1!
Fleeced- One sided trade, giving up a lot for a little, can go both ways good or bad.
Sentence: I can’t believe Justin got fleeced like that, Vance Mcdonald for a 3rd round pick?! It was one stiff arm!!
YAC - Yards after Catch
Sentence: AJ Brown is the YAC king.
YPC - Yards per Carry
FPPG - Fantasy Points Per Game
Streaming - Using the waiver wire/ trades for a position every week, usually for QB, Defense, TE
Sentence: Stream whichever Tight End is playing against the Cardinals, Vance Joseph loves giving fantasy points to Tight Ends.
Waiver Wire - Players who are recently cut from other teams in the league go through a process called the waiver wire. Each team in a specific order get dibs at that player. Falls into free agency if nobody picks them up.
Waiver Order - The order in which you can pick up a player who was recently cut. Top Waiver spot gets first choice of recently cut players.
