Week 8 Six Pack - NFL Picks

Writer's picture: Morgan WatkinsMorgan Watkins

We’re so back baby!!! Last week was a great week of NFL football and a great week of gambling if I do say so myself. If you were like me last week, you certainly enjoyed your six pack. With a 4 up, 2 down week of picks as well as a 3 up, 1 down week in our player prop picks (another post you will find written by yours truly on Fantasy Football Degenerates every Sunday Morning), we are officially heating up. Sometimes all it takes is a little shift in the JuJu, or in this case a switch over to a new gambling platform.

Week 7 is gone with the wind and man do I love football. It was a great slate of games last week led by watching my 2-4-1 Eagles turn the tides on the NFC Least and now look like the clear front runner following their victory over the G-Men. Tom Brady once again did Tom Brady things leading his team, and many fantasy football teams to a big win. The Steel Curtain nearly rises to allow the Titans to steal a win but these 53, like the 300 Spartans could not hold the line leaving Pittsburgh as the NFL’s last undefeated team. And how about those pesky Arizona Cardinals? Led by former Oakland Athletic prized prospect Kyler Murray coming back from the brink of death to defeat the mighty Seattle Seahawks. We had a great week of football and a great week of gambling if you're tailing my picks. But now we move on and look to win some more money on what promises to be another great week of professional football.

Carolina Panthers -2 (-110) against the Atlanta Falcons: LOSS

Just when you think that Atlanta is going to pull a win out in the fourth quarter, they somehow find a way to fall apart again and lose. The culprit this time, a greedy Todd Gurley who saw a few extra incentive dollars waiting for him in the endzone. There’s a chance that I soon will be Captain of the Teddy Bridgewater hype squad as he continues to impress me more and more with each passing week and when the 11th ranked passing offense (263.7 yards per game) meets the 31st ranked passing defense (allowing 333.4 yards per game), the pom poms are coming out cheering for another big Bridgewater week. Add in the fact that there is a chance that Christian “Run CMC” McCaffrey could make his highly anticipated return to the lineup, there is an awful lot to like about the Panthers this week. Carolina is 4-3 ATS this season and having already beaten the clipped Falcons once, expect them to move to 5-3 ATS moving into Week 9.

Pittsburgh Steelers +3.5 (-104) against the Baltimore Ravens:

While this may not be the Lock of the Week, this certainly is in the running for game of the week. The class of the AFC North vs. the frauds of Baltimore. These two teams always are, whether good or bad, going to give us a great football game. This year will be no different as the Big Ben led Pittsburg offense is currently the number 6 scoring offense in football (30.5 points per game). The Baltimore offense is no slouch either, averaging 29.8 points per game but there is one big difference in these teams. Ben is playing great football while Lamar “Action” Jackson has been a shell of his MVP form from last season, throwing for under 20 completions per game as well as under 200 yards per game. This bodes well for a Pittsburgh defense that is the number 2 rush defense in the NFL (giving up a lowly 68.8 yards per game on the ground). Throw in that Baltimore is just 3-3 ATS this season and Big Ben is 2-0 ATS in his last two trips to Baltimore, we like the Steelers to win outright. Photo: UPI

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -10.5 (-112) against the New York Giants:

Was there a better representation of the Giants as a football team than Daniel Jones falling flat on his face in the open field after what should have been a housecall to the endzone ended up being an 80 yard run? Boy, it's gotta be rough to be a Giants fan right now...I’m sure glad that I’m not. You know who it isn't rough for right now...the Tampa Bay Patriots...I mean Buccaneers. Man, the rich just keep getting richer now adding arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL (when his heads on straight) to an offense that was already stacked from top to bottom. The Bucs are averaging 31.7 points per game (good for 3rd in the NFL), while the Giants are averaging a rough 17.4 points per game (good for 31st in the NFL). Not getting enough credit, the Tampa Bay defense is no slouch either, giving up only 20.3 points per game (good for 8th best in the NFL).

Los Angeles Rams -3 (-120) against the Miami Dolphins:

Welcome to the NFL Tua Tagovailoa. Your gift for your first career start…oh I don't know, just arguably the most dominant defensive player this generation has seen. Miami’s offense line hasn't been bad, allowing only 10 sacks thus far this season. That being said, that doesn't change the fact that they have not had a presence like Aaron Donald working to swim through this pod of Dolphins. The Rams are continuing to figure things out each week and are coming off an impressive win against the Bears on MNF. Short week usually means a tired team, but the Rams are 3-0 ATS when playing on short rest. Going from a veteran quarterback, who had this team turning the corner, to a rookie making his first start is a bold strategy cotton. We’re going to see how it turns out but with the Rams 14-6-1 ATS in their last 21 games as the favorite, we’re expecting it to turn out poorly for the Dolphins. Ride the Rams over the waves.

Green Bay Packers -6.5 (-118) against the Minnesota Vikings:

The Packers bounced back in a big way with a convincing slaughter of those Houston Texans in Week 7 and quickly reestablished themselves as one of the premier contenders not only in the NFC, but also the NFL. Aaron Rodgers is right back in the thick of the MVP race following his 283 yard, 4 touchdown performance. The Packers offense has already put up 43 points on a healthier Vikings team, a team which also had not traded arguably its top defensive lineman in Yannick Ngakoue. The purple people eaters have struggled giving up 286.7 yards per game through the air while on the offensive side of the ball, Kirk “You Like That” Cousins has his team averaging 2 turnovers a game, a number which ranks 29th in the NFL. Throw in a questionable Dalvin Cook and the Viking offense could run into some trouble trying to keep up with such a potent offense on the other sideline. Best part of the Pack this season...they have been MONEY ATS to the tune of a 5-1 record and look like a promising pick to move to 6-1 ATS this season. Photo: Brad Rempel

And the highly anticipated, most electrifying Lock of the Week...

Tennessee Titans -5.5 (-110) against the Cincinnati Bengals:

This could be a tough game for Tennessee, who aside from a blowout win against Buffalo has not won in convincing fashion this year. But this is one of those teams who is never out of a game and finds ways to win the ball game. Last week, they were down and out against the Steelers until they ran it down the throats of the Steel Curtain to nearly steal a W. Enter the Bengals, led by phenom Joe “Mr. Steal Your Girl” Burrow and we have a chance for a pretty good game. Tennessee D has struggled a bit this year and is not getting any pressure but what better remedy than a team that is giving up a tied for the league worst 4 sacks per game. And we all know how powerful the freight train that is Derrick Henry is leading the 5th ranked rushing offense (145.2 yards per game) up against the 28th ranked rushing defense (133.7 yards per game). I’m looking for Tennessee to power their way to a cover and a win this week over these jungle cats.
