Week 3 has come and gone, and with it comes a new week of pickups and drops for your team. You are probably angry with how your waiver pick played last week, as it was a horrendous week for most options coming off of the waiver. Dion Lewis and Devonta Freeman were essentially useless. Gardner and Keelan Cole apparently missed the memo that there was a football game being played. The saving grace of the waiver wire adds were Jerick Mckinnon, although he got hurt and missed valuable time where his replacement scored two touchdowns, and Mike Davis, who we all knew was going to get the workload.
Week 4 has some rookie breakouts that I discussed preseason, but nobody ever wants to stash rookies on their bench. Those same people probably did not roster an injured player to start the season and stuck them on IR, so those players that were placed on IR to start the year are returning to practice this week. Depending on your needs of course, there are many options to choose from this week.

Carlos Hyde- 14% owned
Chris Carson left the game after Kurt Angle had him in an ankle lock and twisted his knee. The play was clearly dirty, but the MRI came up clean so it was called a mild knee sprain. They might hold him out in Week 4, so if he cannot go, Carlos Hyde is the next guy up. With the Dolphins up next on the schedule, the Seahawks might play it safe with Carson which would open up the starting job to Hyde for Week 4. Hyde has not been used much through the first three weeks with only 16 attempts for 54 yards, but he was a 1,000 yard rusher last year with a much worse team. The opportunity could be there for him to have a great week in Week 4. This is a short term pickup, if you have a dire need at RB this may be your move.

Justin Jefferson- 32% owned
The rookie breakout was bound to happen some time, and it happened in Week 3 with Jefferson catching 7 balls for 175 yards and a touchdown. Through three weeks, he has 12 receptions on 15 targets for 245 yards. Jefferson was one of my picks as a top rookie breakout due to his opportunity he will have right out of the draft. The Vikings have looked terrible to start the season, but there was life in the offense in Week 3. Jefferson was lining up in the slot almost exclusively until Week 3, and maybe he should be lined up out wide more often since he balled on the outside. He has now solidified the job as the WR2 on the Vikings and should be the number one or number two option in the waiver wire this week for season long value, at least in my opinion.

Brandon Aiyuk- 22% owned
The other rookie that had a breakout game was Brandon Aiyuk. Some of the breakout was due to all of the injuries on the 49ers, some of it was from his connection he had with Mullens, the rest of it was the atrocious Giants defense. Regardless, with Deebo still out on injury, Kittle still questionable and Mullens at QB, we could see Aiyuk continue to be used in the offense. In Week 4, Aiyuk brought in 5 receptions for 70 yards along with three rushing attempts for 31 yards and a touchdown. He can be used in a variety of ways, and Kyle Shanahan loves players like this for his dynamic offense. He may have carved out himself a permanent role in this offense for the rest of the season.

Jeff Wilson Jr- 18% owned
Most leagues will have Jeff Wilson be the first waiver option this week, personally I am not as high on him as others. I believe that it is one week too late and his time has come and passed with Mostert having a chance at coming back this week. Wilson did not run the ball all that well, rushing 12 times for only 15 yards but he did find pay dirt. He had most of his points through the air with 3 receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown. I chalk most of his production through the air to Jerick Mckinnon leaving the game at the start of the 4th quarter with a rib injury. I will be staying away from Wilson because I believe McKinnon is still the guy to own until Mostert and Coleman come back.

Alshon Jeffery- 14% owned
It will most likely be at least one more week until he will be ready to play. This pains me to write because I personally hate this man for what he has done to me and my fantasy teams in the past, however, Jeffery will be the only competent receiver on this team. With his team reeling out of control, they will be throwing the ball often, and whenever he comes back he will get the volume to be a valuable fantasy asset to have in your lineups. For a WR1 for his team, he is just sitting on the waiver wire begging to be picked up, and you’d rather be a week early to the party than a week late and not have him for when he is healthy.
