Waiver Wire Madness Week 5 - 2020 Fantasy Football

Writer's picture: BillyFFDBillyFFD

Another NFL week in the record books and what a weekend it was. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY saw the Browns going off for 49 points, Philly winning, Brady throwing 5 touchdowns, and more injuries to starting running backs. With more injuries, possible postponed games, and the start of Bye Weeks, this season is about to get real weird real quick. Both the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers are on a bye in Week 5.

D'Ernest Johnson- 1% owned

Johnson went from irrelevance to must own after Nick Chubb heads to the IR. He takes over as the back that will split time with Kareem Hunt. In Week 4, he took advantage of all 13 carries he had rushing for 95 yards. While everyone will be scrambling for Kelley, Jackson, etc, this may be your guy for the future. He does have an unfavorable matchup against the Colts in Week 5, but this is a longer play not just a spot start. Photo: Getty Images

Robert Tonyan- 25% owned

Baby Kittle looks like his Week 2 and 3 performances were not a fluke. Aaron Rodgers is a guy that is all about trust. Given his MNF performance of 3 TDs on 6 catches for 98 yards, I’d go out on a limb and say he is trusted by the Discount Double Check king himself. I believe some of his volume has come because of injuries to Devante Adams and Allen Lazard, but regardless it is all about trust. Given the landscape of the Tight End position, he can be played every week because unless you have a top 3 or 4 option, you are usually streaming the position. Disclaimer: Green Bay has a bye in Week 5. Photo: AP Images

Scotty Miller- 16% owned

I talked a lot of smack about this guy, but when there is opportunity you have to take advantage. With Godwin still questionable, and now Mike Evans possibly hurt, Tom Brady could be looking for him more often in the passing game. Miller is coming off of back to back 80 yard games, which is enough for a flex play at least.

Kirk Cousins- 29% owned

My number one streaming option at QB this week. He struts his way into Seattle, and plans to air it out against the worst secondary that NFL fans might have ever seen. Through the first three weeks (since this is being written on Monday night) they have given up over 400 passing yards per game, and also have given up 137 fantasy points to WRs this season which is 38 more points than the next worst team. The Seahawks have also allowed the 2nd most fantasy points to QBs. This matchup couldn’t come at a better time for Cousins, as the offense is finally finding its groove.

Joshua Kelly- 54%

Joshua Kelly is owned in just over 50% of leagues, but if he is there it is your one and only waiver wire option, especially if you own Austin Ekeler (guilty). Kelly hasn’t looked top notch, but volume is what we are looking for especially because of all the injuries and possible postponements.

Justin Jackson- 6% owned

Justin Jackson is one Joshua Kelly injury (hopefully not) away from being the starter. Neither one of these Chargers backup RBs are exciting but there will be a 1A - 1B operation headed forward, so in a real pinch, he could be playable if you are desperate.

Browns D-

The Browns defense is starting to come together, as they face off in Week 5 vs Philip Rivers and the Colts. I can smell a few sacks coming in for Miles “Assault” Garrett. Now I get it, your thinking that they just let up 38 points. The Colts offense is not very good, the Cowboys is and that is the difference maker.
