Wild Week 5 is coming to a close, and what a week it was. The Raiders take down the defending champs, the Dolphins take down the NFC champs, and FINALLY Dan Quinn got fired. Dak Prescott had a horrific ankle injury that required emergency surgery. Some advice to QBs on the run, you need to slide or you will get hit. Justin Jackson worked out pretty well as a waiver add last week, and the Browns D was a solid choice. Too bad that the rest of the options didn’t pan out exactly the way we had hoped.
Week 6 is make or break for many fantasy teams. It is hard to climb your way out of a 1-4 start, or even a 2-3 start. The waiver wire gets tricky around now, people are holding their spots, or saving their FAAB for the next big injury. Let's dive into this week’s choices for waiver options.
Chase Claypool- 14% owned
Chase “4 Tuddies” Claypool breakout game was sensational to watch as a Steelers fan. However, he will never score 4 touchdowns again… or at least we don’t think he will. Claypool was someone I loved preseason but did not think that he would get the reps to become fantasy relevant, after multiple injuries to Diontae Johnson that has changed. If you are a listener to the podcast, you’ve heard me talk about how good he is, but I didn’t expect the wild amount of work he received this past Sunday.

He gained Big Ben’s trust in Week 5, receiving 7 catches for 110 yards and 3 visits to the end zone on 11 targets. He was also used on the goal line for an end around touchdown score to bring his TD total to 4. With Johnson potentially missing multiple games, he is a must add to rosters. Claypool and the Steelers have a great matchup in Week 6 as the Browns have allowed the 3rd most points to fantasy WRs through the first five weeks of the season.
Mike Williams- 39% owned
Mike Williams was a game time decision on Monday night, and he had the opportunity to show the world that he can still play great football. Keenan Allen left the game with back spasms and Herbert had no choice but to feed Williams the deep ball including one massive 64 yard TD. It’s strange to me that Mike Williams was nowhere to be found all year last year when he was on my fantasy team but he shined for 5 receptions for 109 yards and 2 TDs on MNF. If the Chargers continue to let Herbert throw the ball deep, Williams can be a great flex play moving forward. Photo: AP Images
Laviska Shenault- 34% owned
With the injury to DJ Chark, who could miss more than one game, Shenault’s already increasing workload becomes fantasy relevant. In the last two weeks, Shenault has caught 12 balls for 165 yards. He is also currently leading the Jaguars in receptions, as well as receiving yards. Sounds good enough to me to add him to a fantasy team. Photo: Jaguars.com
Alexander Mattison- 40% owned
We tried to tell you week after week on the podcast to pick this man up because it was only a matter of time before Dalvin Cook got hurt. Now, the injury to Cook did not seem to be too serious, but groin injuries can be troublesome for RBs as it can be aggravated while making a quick cut. Mattison is probably the most talented true backup RB in the league, and actually was running much better than Cook was vs Seattle. He should be owned in 100% of leagues regardless of if Cook misses next week or not.
Justin Herbert- 50% owned
Justin Herbert should be owned now that bye weeks have begun. The rookie has been showing out early in the season and has only gotten better as the season has gone on. I will say, however, at the time of writing this Keenan Allen has been ruled out for the rest of the night. This could be bad news if the injury is serious enough for him to miss time. Herbert has thrown for 1,195 yards and 9 touchdowns in 4 starts. He has a massive arm, and the weapons around him to be a viable streamer week in and week out.
Andy Dalton- 3% owned
Poor Dak Prescott. Where there is a gruesome injury, there must be someone to replace him. Andy Dalton may very well be the best insurance policy in the league. He is talented enough to be a starting QB on every team in his division. He walks into a high powered offense with weapons that he could have only dreamed of having in his career. With the Cowboys defense still a dumpster fire, he should have all the opportunity in the world to put up big numbers. Photo: USA Today
Dolphins Defense Stream of the Week
Dolphins just embarrassed Jimmy G and C.J. Beathard in Week 5 to the point that the 49ers had to "protect" Jimmy G. Sammy Smooches will be seeing ghosts again in Week 6 and we all know Adam Gase couldn't coach himself out of a wet paper bag.
